For nearly 200 years, the Village has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of children in the greater Hartford region. The Champions for Children Bicentennial Campaign will build upon this legacy through the creation of new initiatives in partnership with some of Connecticut’s leading universities and institutions, and by furthering our existing collaborations with state and local agencies, other area non-profits, and Hartford’s public schools.
The Campaign Priorities…and related programs
Home Away From Home: Providing the Village’s residential children with comfortable, contemporary living environments.
The Academy for Successful Families: The Village helps parents increase their strength and stability through early childhood programs, parent training, and financial literacy programs.
Programs include The Village Fatherhood Project, Common Sense Parenting, The Financial Literacy and Asset Building Program, Friends of the Family, and The Integrated Early Childhood and Family Services Initiative.
Home Room: Students at Hartford Public Schools need high-quality academic support, engaging enrichment activities and safe after-school recreation. They can find all these things at the Village’s school-based and community programs.
Programs include the 21st Century Learning Centers, The Full-Service School Initiative, Community Family Resource Centers, Student Mentoring Programs, and The Truancy Court Prevention Project.
Home for Good: Creating loving “forever families” for children—many of whom are hard to place because of age, behavioral challenges, or other special needs. These very special families need extra support, before and after placement, to keep the children healthy and the parents strong.
Programs include Adoption and Foster Care, Intensive Family Preservation, Reconnecting Families, and Lifelong Family Ties.
