Swine Flu Advisory

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE VILLAGE

May 1, 2009

As an organization, we are well aware of the potential seriousness of the current swine flu (H1N1 flu virus) outbreak. Nonetheless, we echo President Obama: "This is a cause for deep concern, but not panic."

The Village works with families and children on a daily basis, at our own facilities, in local schools, and even in the homes of those we serve. Our agency follows guidelines of the State Department of Public Health (DPH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These guidelines outline procedures for helping to avoid the spread of the H1N1 flu virus and for program closure if necessary.

The Village encourages all its staff and clients to follow sensible precautions with regard to the swine flu. Individuals should continue to go about their normal routine as long as they do not have flu-like symptoms including fever over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose. Additional symptoms include muscle pain, fatigue and sometimes vomiting or diarrhea.

Those who do experience any of these symptoms, particularly children, should stay home and see a doctor.  To avoid the spread of germs, those who are sick or have flu like symptoms should stay home and avoid public gatherings until they are better and have been well for at least two days.
