Program Aimed at Grandparents Raising Children

The Village for Families and Children is pleased to announce that it is offering Grandparents Need Support Too, an 8-week program for grandparents raising children. The program responds to a very real community need. According to US Census estimates almost 3400 grandparents in Hartford share a household with their grandchildren. Of those, almost half are responsible for their grandchildren.Grandparents Need Support will address the special issues these families face, including improving communication, handling loss and abandonment, and building self-esteem. The program will be based on the Enpowering Grandparents Raising Grandchildren curriculum by Carole Cox, Ph.D.
