Foster Parents Needed
The Village for Families & Children is seeking foster parents, for two or more foster programs, to provide children and youth in need of a nurturing home. Thousands are waiting in Connecticut.
Training, 24/7 support, and monthly stipend.
Therapeutic Foster Care Program - Servicing for "Socially-Emotionally" disturbed children reflecting on their day-to-day functions at home, school and community. Children with mild to severe developmental delays needing the parents' assistance to learn from self-care, school functioning, family relationships, or abilities to function in the community. - Age 6 - 17 years
- Towns served: Hartford, Bloomfield, West Hartford, Windsor, Manchester, Andover, Bolton, East Granby, East Hartford, East Windsor, Ellington, Enfield, Glastonbury, Granby, Hebron, Marlborough, Somers, South Windsor, Stafford, Suffield, Tolland, Vernon and Windsor Locks.
- Family Composition: Single or two working parents
- Training required: PRIDE model, training hours required 28 per year
- Clinical Services: Outpatient, wraparound services and programs. Necessary services to maintain placement.
- Length of placement: according to DCF permanency plan
- Respite: Village will provide families with up to 18 days of respite.
- Stipend: $55/day
Family and Community Ties Program - The new Family and Community Ties Program (FCT) was born out of a commitment on the part of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) to return youth who have been sent out of state back to their communitites where they will be able to strengthen their connections with natural and community supports. The FCT program serves youth who are involved with DCF and referred due to psychiatric and/or behavioral issues. Due to the specialized needs of the child, this program was designed to offer a wraparound approach that is strength based and creates individualized planning for each youth and family. - Age 6 - 17 years

- Family Composition: Two caregiver home preferred, at least one parent available at all times, no other children under 18 in the home is preferred
- Training required: MAPP and TARGET, training hours 30/hrs and 30/hrs of support groups per year
- Therapy Services: Home-based clinical services, wraparound approach, intensive/frequent clinical contact, families will complete intensive training in behavior management. A minimum of 4 hours of in-home therapy by clinicians weekly in addition to other identified community support. Necessary services in order to maintain placement of child.
- Length of placement: ideally no longer than 18 months
- Respite: Village will provide families with up to 28 days of paid respite
- Stipend: $82/day
Adoption & Support
The Village Adoption Program recruits and approves families for children whose permanency plan is adoption. The program also serves biological parents who need help with planning for themselves and their children. The program reflects the belief that it is the right of each child to be wanted, loved and to grow up in a safe and nurturing family. Children are placed primarily through DCF. Post Adoption Support is offered to all families who have adopted in the state of CT and who are in need of support can access services through the Adoption Assistance Program at UCONN. Their phone number is 877-679-1961.
Adoption Search Services
Upon request, the Village will provide information to adult adoptees and birth parents. Adoptees age 18 or older can request non-identifying background and medical information or identifying information regarding their birth family. Birth parents can request identifying information about an adult adoptee. Consent is required for releasing identifying information. The Village also maintains an Adoption Reunion Registry according to Connecticut General Statutes, Sec. 45-68A-45-68p, where adult adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents can register.
