Gifts
to The Village are used for our top priorities, which provide
valuable support and will "change lives" for children
and families. These highly advantageous gifts allow the president
to direct resources to new initiatives undertaken by The Village
in support of its mission. Unrestricted giving is critical for
meeting the ever-changing, and often unexpected, challenges of
the future.
If you prefer, you may choose to designate your contribution to
support a particular programmatic area and their overarching work.
Contributions designated to a specific program will be used in
support of initiatives undertaken by it, at the discretion of
the director.
Additionally, the Development Office would be happy to work with
you to create a specific endowment in support of the many exciting
initiatives of the Village, including: Permanency- Adoption &
Foster Care, Treatment, and Family & Community Support Programs.

More
than 1,000 corporations and organizations offer programs to employees
that match charitable contributions, either in whole or part.

are also eligible for a match.
Please check with your Human Resources department to see if your

gift could double or even triple your contribution to The Village.
Commemorating
a special person with a gift to The Village can be tremendously
satisfying. A commemorative gift is a lasting tribute to a friend,
colleague, or loved one and provides valuable support to further
the work of The Village. A gift "in honor of" someone
usually is made while that person is living, often for milestone
occasions such as a birthday, promotion, or retirement. A gift
"in memory of" someone is the term used when the namesake
is deceased. Both are referred to as commemorative.
There are many ways to make a commemorative gift. All the financial
strategies of planned giving apply, or you may choose to make
an outright gift. As with all gifts to The Village, commemorative
gifts are utilized in support of the top priorities of the agency,
or you may choose to purchase a commemorative brick to be installed
at The Village's main campus. Additional recognition opportunities
within The Village also are available.
To make a commemorative gift, you can donate online or contact
the Development Office at (860) 297-0558 for further information
concerning specific recognition opportunities.
Gifts
of appreciated securities are a popular alternative to cash gifts
since they offer many tax advantages. In addition to receiving
an income tax deduction for the full market value of the securities,
you also avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation. In essence,
you save twice--on income tax and capital gains tax. If the security
is used to fund a charitable trust or gift annuity, you may receive
substantial estate and gift tax benefits as well.

Gifts
of real property can consist of almost any type of real estate,
including personal or recreational residences, farms, ranches,
commercial buildings, or land. Gifts of property are reviewed

goals and financial needs determine the most appropriate methods
of giving real estate property. Options for giving include:
an
outright gift;
a
life income gift in which you receive an income based in part
on the net proceeds of the sale; or
a
life tenancy gift, in which you retain the right to live on the
property for your lifetime.
If
you are interested in making a gift of real property, please contact
the Development Office by e-mail or
by calling (860) 297-0558.

the estimated value is $5,000 or more, an independent appraisal
is required. The Village's Development Office will provide a tax
receipt that describes the donated items. However, The Village
