Social Work Internship Program
 

About the Internships

The Village sponsors several internships for students who are enrolled in Masters Degree programs in Social Work and Marriage and Family Therapy. We also two internships for students in their last year of a Bachelors Degree program in Social Work. Our interns come from New England and New York Universities and Colleges.  Currently we have interns from the following MSW programs: Fordham University, Springfield College, Smith College, and the University of Connecticut. We also have one BSW student from Saint Joseph College.

Requirements

• First or second year students in MSW programs OR senior year BSW students
• Must have experience (volunteer or work) with families and children
• Must be referred by the school of social work
• Must be interviewed by the Director of Social Work Interns
• Determination of acceptance is based upon the availability of supervision in the student’s area of interest, prior experience, and learning needs

Multi-Service Agency

• Outpatient mental health services for children, families and adults
• Day treatment programs for children
• Residential programs
• School-based Family Resource Centers
• Community outreach clinics
• Adoption Program
• Therapeutic Foster Care Program
• Planning, Performance & Accountability Department
• Collaborative programs with other agencies

Population Served

• Ethnically and culturally diverse clientele
• Residents of the City of Hartford and suburbs
• Children from birth, adolescents and adults with a wide range of presenting problems

Supervision and Training

• Individual and group supervision by licensed social workers (LCSW) for all clinical work
• Supervision by MSWs for interns concentrating on Administration and Community Organization
• Video Taping
• Seminar series and agency-sponsored workshops

Diverse Experiences

• Short and long-term therapy
• Individual, family and group work
• Community-based programs
• Multidisciplinary, multicultural teams
• Research or program evaluation

More Information

Referrals will probably not be accepted after June 30 for the new internship year, which starts in September and goes to early May.
